Bath Spa introduces local schoolchildren to the joy of gardening
Thursday, 11 June, 2020Lockdown has brought a new-found appreciation for nature to many, and the Bath Spa Estates team has played a part by sharing their love of gardening with some local schoolchildren.
Earlier this year, the grounds and allotment teams had surplus herbs and other plants, as well as sunflowers from a student project. Rather than let them go to waste, maintenance team member Mark Beech found them a new home at Widcombe Infant School.
When the school recently reopened, the returning pupils were able to help with the planting around the school grounds, including in the vegetable patch and senses garden. Trudie Beech, teaching assistant at Widcombe, told us, “The children at school really enjoyed planting them and will enjoy watching them grow!”
The children were so pleased with their botanical experience that they sent a handmade thank you card to Bath Spa's grounds manager Penny Snowden saying, “Many of us have found a love of nature during our weeks at home and we are excited about having flowers in our school gardens.”
Many thanks to Widcombe Infant School for sharing their photos with us!
