Students celebrate Bath Spa with their creative hoodie design
Thursday, 14 May, 2020The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a lot of change and disruption, with students’ final days on campus sadly cut short as we’ve transitioned to a virtual university. But two innovative Bath Spa students are using their creativity to bring a bit of joy, positivity – and something comforting to wrap up in – with their quirky, Bath Spa-inspired hoodies.
Third year BA (Hons) Commercial Music students Adam Holdsworth and Niamh Jones started their clothing brand, Adam & Neve, as part of their business and enterprise module at Bath Spa. “We both love fashion, particularly funny and unique designs,” Adam said. “So we decided to design our own t-shirts and create a brand as part of our module.”
Niamh hand sketches the designs and Adam uses a graphics tablet to recreate them on a computer, adding colour and shading. They released their first collection, The Grocers Collection, in December 2019, and they plan to carry on with the brand after graduation.
The pair are launching their Bath Spa ‘leavers’ style hoodie to coincide with this year’s Graduation dates, which have been postponed due to the pandemic. Through their design – which aptly features a signature Bath Spa sheep wearing a mortarboard cap and lounging in a bath – they aim to commemorate their time at university and pay tribute to the beloved city that has been such a large part of students’ lives. The hoodies can be pre-ordered through their website and will be delivered during Graduation Week, 22-24 July.
In addition to providing a little pick me up for students during unsettling times, Adam said they hope to give people an outlet for their own creativity through their clothes. “We believe that clothes can spread joy and empower people,” he explained. “And we want as many people as possible to feel they can truly be and express themselves.”
You can get your own little bit of Bath Spa to wear on the Adam & Neve website.
