Personal statement
As a Placement and Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Hannah support students to gain industry work experience. Alongside her team, she is responsible for supporting and delivering a range of support services for students undertaking different levels of work experience. Work experience can range from anywhere between a few days to a few months and comes in many shapes and forms.
As part of her role, Hannah offers 1-2-1 placement support, delivers presentations to her two schools and presents on the Professional Placement Year module. Students who complete the Professional Placement Year (PPY) are allocated a dedicated coordinator. Hannah visits her students out on PPY and is their main point of contact while they are away from university. She works closely with their employer to ensure that the student has a fulfilling experience.
In addition to supporting students completing work experience, Hannah works closely with the School of Design and the School of Music and Performing Arts. She supports the schools with any placement modules they run and promotes opportunities directly to course leaders. Hannah also chairs a PPY tutor meeting twice a year where she gives updates and placement information to the PPY tutors.
Hannah manages applications to the Placements Award which was designed to increase awareness and uptake of work experience, including those from low participation backgrounds. She sets up regular panel meetings to discuss the applications received and then arranges for the funds to be directly transferred to the student.
Prior to joining Bath Spa University in 2019, Hannah worked as a primary school teacher and taught for several years in a local school. She enjoys working in education and feels that her teaching background contributes to her ability to deliver presentations to students.
