Bath Spa student designs winning trophy

Thursday, 6 June, 2019

A trophy created by second year Furniture and Product Design (BA) Hons student Adam Meyrick will soon grace the shelves of recognised businesses across Bath.

Adam’s design was chosen as the award to be handed out at this year’s Creative Bath Awards - these annual awards aim to support local creative and tech companies, to share creative excellence and help the sector to thrive, and to highlight that Bath is a leading creative city.

The trophy fuses the old with the new through material and texture, combining natural wood (which has been carved to mimic iconic Bath stone landmarks) with plastic. And it also incorporates the distinctive Creative Bath Awards 'A' in their signature blue. “It’s a union of natural materials and processes and the exploration of new technologies and advancements,” Adam said.

The biggest challenge for Adam was making sure his design could be fully realised and completed on time. Luckily he was able to overcome the challenge and create his winning entry, which will be handed out to award winners at a ceremony on 13 June.

Adam said: “I'm really looking forward to getting the making fully underway and hope to produce a quality item the winners will be proud to receive.”

The project began in 2017 and is a collaboration between Creative Bath and Bath Spa University, which sponsors the Creative Bath Awards. The competition gives students real-life experience of pitching in front of clients and gives them an opportunity to make important contacts and business connections before they graduate.
