Trend-setting fashion design students celebrate Graduate Fashion Week success

Bath Spa University BA Fashion Design students are celebrating this season after their collections turned heads at this year’s Graduate Fashion Week, one of the world’s most important sources of new talent for the fashion design industry.

Despite strong competition, final year Bath Spa University BA Fashion Design student Hannah Stote won the Graduate Fashion Week 2019 Catwalk Knitwear Award. The award was presented in recognition of Hannah’s innovative knitwear collection and her commendable use of colour, texture, yarn and silhouette.

The award criteria specified that garments should be ‘creative, fashion forward, technically excellent in craftsmanship and production whilst demonstrating an understanding of the identified market’. Creativity, catwalk impact and craftsmanship were the key criteria judges were looking for and they found all three, and more, in Hannah’s creations.

Further recognition was given to both Hannah and fellow BA Fashion Design student Holly Bryant, whose works were also selected for the prestigious Gala Show which showcases the best 28 collections of the year.

Both Hannah and Holly were supported by funding from the University’s Development and Alumni Relations department. Hannah received support from the Enterprise Showcase Fund and Holly was awarded funding from the Doris Southcott Bursary.

With more than 40 universities taking part in 2019, each year, Graduate Fashion Week propels the careers of the UK's fashion talent into the mainstream market.

Finishing their final year of university in style, all graduating BA Fashion Design students and their collections took to the stage in the heart of Bath for the annual Bath Graduate Fashion Show at the Assembly Rooms on Wednesday 19 June.
