Bath Spa Placement Team wins national award

Friday, 6 March, 2020

The Placements Team has won a National Undergraduate Employability Award for Most Improved Commitment to Employability.

The awards are organised by RateMyPlacement.co.uk, and were announced on 28 February in London. The awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of employers, universities and students in undergraduate work experience.

According to the judges, the main reasons for Bath Spa’s win were:

  • Bath Spa’s university placements service has grown considerably. They utilised the ‘Office for Fair Access’ funding to financially support several new and successful initiatives for over 400 students.
  • The whole university is behind the promotion of placement years and the full centralisation of all university placement processes and management has meant partnerships with Santander and Erasmus have grown and the team are sourcing 2-week paid micro placements for first-years.
  • Timetabled initiatives for all second years such as community-led motivational speakers, Employer-led workshops and ‘Employer in the Foyer’ drop-in sessions have helped triple the number of students undertaking placement years. They are also supporting entrepreneurship through their creative courses, by funding local studio space for students to help them get their own businesses up and running.

Barrie Grey, Head of Careers and Employability, said: “Bath Spa University is committed to continually improving employability for our students and graduates. This award is fantastic recognition of our dedicated Careers and Employability Team for their work to create a brilliant employability experience.”
