Winners announced for national See What I See competition

Friday, 26 June, 2020

Three budding creatives from across the UK have been crowned winners of the inaugural See What I See competition, which asked children aged five to 16 to reimagine the places and spaces around them during lockdown.

The competition, launched by Bath Spa University and the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust (RFACT), wanted to help children feel more connected to the outside world whilst confined to their homes during the coronavirus outbreak.

Joella Wilkins, who won the 13-16 year-old category with an innovative community hub that goes underground when not in use, said: "I’ve always had a passion for art and design and one day hope to become an architect. When the opportunity to take part in this competition arose, I jumped at the chance as it’s not something I would have done otherwise – especially designing a new concept for my local area."

Professor Kyriaki Anagnostopoulou, Bath Spa's Head of the School of Education, and one of the judges, said: "We were absolutely blown away by the number of entries we had to the competition. The quality of the entries are testament to the incredible talent and imagination that exists within our young people today and we are delighted they were able to use their free time to get creative and re-think the places and spaces around them."
