Andrew Carr – Bath Spa University

Personal statement

Andrew joined the Bath Spa University’s Institute for Education in 2017 but has worked in education for 20 years. For much of this time, he was a secondary school teacher and senior leader.

With a passion for teaching and learning, pedagogy and research, Andrew has developed his skills in enhancing the professional learning of others into a role in Higher Education Initial Teacher Education. He has been a PGCE lecturer and tutor since 2015 and now supports Bath Spa University’s School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) partners, through the PGCE. His experience in teacher assessment is utilised through the Assessment Only programme, where teachers are awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Most recently, Andrew has engaged with the University’s new partnership with Educators Abroad, where teachers can achieve QTS in international schools. In 2016, Andrew began his PhD; his thesis centres around the secondary school English curriculum and the teaching of knowledge.
