Course: BA (Hons) English Literature
Graduating year: 2026

Why did you choose BSU?

I chose to study at BSU because of the traditional and unconventional methods of approaching literature. These interwoven teachings have allowed me to see a clear route for how applicable my fascination is with English as a career.

I never would have been confident enough to pursue my niche literary interests.

The versatility of learning through magazine creation, podcasts and open modules facilitate moments to engage with the unfamiliar.

Thus, these opportunities, along with foundational lecturers to support me, has allowed me to explore practical possibilities of what I can do with an English degree.

Best thing about your course?

The best thing about my course is the interdisciplinary modules I get to experience as a single-honours English student. Though it is undeniable that English already looks through a multitude of lenses as a way of understanding the world today, seminars with History, Politics and Philosophy students helped to frame my perception better.

As a result of this, I have been able to expand my writing skills and build upon what I previously knew solely in English. In a way, talking and working on an interdisciplinary module has naturally elevated my social skills and ability to empathise with different topics from an alternative viewpoint.

What's been your favourite experience so far?

My favourite experience so far is the detail of critical theory we look at in relation to literature. For instance, eco-feminist critiques have illustrated the need for me to look at ecological writing through a feminist lens.

This has been something that I have loved doing with a wide range of texts studied on the English course and it has enabled me to elevate my writing.

I would encourage those looking to study at Bath Spa University to choose English since the course continues to highlight ways of reading a text in a new and purposeful light.

Favourite thing to do in Bath?

The best thing you can do throughout your study is to soak up as much scenery here. Embracing Bath's beauty acts as a reminder of your well-deserved place within it!

My favourite thing to do in Bath is relax in the gardens of Victoria Park. This is a perfect place for picnics with friends, in addition to the view of the Crescent that leaves you stunned.
