Novel adaptation nominated for an International Emmy

The BAFTA-winning BBC adaptation of Creative Writing lecturer Dr Joanna Nadin's novel Joe All Alone has been nominated for an International Emmy Award.

Joe All Alone, the CBBC drama series, was awarded a BAFTA in 2018 and is based on the 2015 novel of the same name.

Thirteen-year-old Joe is left to fend for himself when his mum flies to Spain with her latest dodgy boyfriend, Dean. What starts as an adventure quickly escalates when the food and money run out, Joe's mum doesn't come home, and the local thugs catch up with Joe.

International Emmy Kids Awards nominees were announced on October 14, and winners will be announced in March 2020. The nominations span 15 countries.

Writing for Young People lecturer Joanna has written more than 80 books for children and adults, including the award-winning Penny Dreadful series and the critically-acclaimed YA novels Eden, Wonderland and Undertow. Joe All Alone was also nominated for a Carnegie Medal in 2016.
