Explore Psychology
BSU offers a range of Psychology courses that cover every aspect of the subject including business, education and crime.
Accreditation from BPS
Our BSc (Hons) Psychology courses are accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). This provides Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS to gain Chartered Psychologist status, provided you achieve a 2.2 overall and pass the final year dissertation. This is the first step towards entry into accredited postgraduate and doctoral programmes and is essential to becoming a Chartered Psychologist.
Psychology labs
Our newly renovated psychology labs provide an interactive environment where you can develop the practical skills needed for psychological investigation and discovery.
Psychology labs are spaces for the controlled study of the human brain and behaviour. They support a wide range of areas, including biological, cognitive, behavioural, developmental, forensic and social psychology.

“I started my degree completely undecided in the direction I wanted my career to follow”
Engaging in this course allowed me to understand what each trajectory could entail. This fuelled the development for a fascination in criminal and forensic psychology.
“I graduated from BSU last summer and I am currently doing an MSc in Health Psychology”
I am also a support worker for young people at risk of homelessness. The best experience BSU offered me was working in collaboration with Somerset Police to conduct research for them for my dissertation.

Celebrating student research excellence
We’re proud to share that two of our Psychology graduates, Lucy Ellis and Ellie Osborne-Ford, have had their dissertation research published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
As part of their final-year projects, these students worked in collaboration with Dr Agnieszka Janik McErlean (Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Programme Lead) on research into autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR). From designing and conducting their own studies to writing up their findings, they demonstrated exceptional academic and research skills.

Connecting with the local community
BSU students Mina Oughdir and Aleshia Chalet contributed to a literature review for Bath-based charity Voices for Life, as part of an ongoing research collaboration with the department.
This provided students with valuable hands-on experience of real world research, and the project was recently featured on BBC Newsround.

Undergraduate Research Conference
On 2 June 2025, the BSU Psychology Department proudly hosted the Undergraduate Research Conference, celebrating the achievements of its final-year students as they presented their dissertation research projects. The event offered a valuable platform for students to share their research with peers, staff and guests from both academic and professional backgrounds.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop communication skills, exchange ideas and build connections through networking. Congratulations to all of our final-year students for their impressive contributions and enthusiastic participation!
