Quietly Alongside (Clay and Wellbeing)
Short course
Explore and play with making with clay, focusing on enjoying hand building processes rather than an end result.
- Explore the art of making whilst existing in a restful space.
- Focus on the experience of creating with clay rather than producing a finished piece.
- Understand how to be present in the moment whilst being surrounded by nature.
In Quietly Alongside (Clay and Wellbeing), you’ll take part in small group sessions to explore and play with making with clay, focusing on enjoying hand building processes rather than an end result. You can photograph what you have made, and take away the clay to continue making, but we won't fire finished work in a kiln.
This is a good taster session of an hour and a half, for all levels of experience.
We will be outside by the river, under the willows (weather permitting) giving ourselves time and space making alongside each other to relax and feel our way.

Meet the team
Clay and found objects are at the heart of Clare Day’s practice, alongside a focus on how materials feel in the hand. She makes imprints in the clay as a way to record a time, a place, a feeling. Her central practice is with clay, but she also makes prints, drawings and projections.
Clare has an artist educator strand to her practice, supporting creativity and wellbeing in others by using clay in an exploratory way. She works with, for example, the Holburne Museum and House of Imagination, and in schools, hospitals and galleries on various projects. You can find out more about Clare’s work by following her on Instagram.
