    Created and delivered through close consultation and collaboration with employers, the MBA Leadership at Bath Spa aims to ensure that you’ll graduate with the leadership skills that organisations need in an ever-changing business environment.

    You’ll learn to manage complexity, diversity, and change, and develop creative and innovative approaches to the challenges facing teams, organisations, and sectors.

    You’ll have the opportunity to gain Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accreditation on this course, in addition to securing an internationally-recognised postgraduate management degree.

    What you'll learn


    This course is designed to develop your theoretical and practical expertise in business, management and leadership. You'll be encouraged to engage in current debates on strategic business, management, and leadership issues, and to critically reflect on the complexities of social, political, and economic change.

    Through scholarly enquiry, peer discussion, evaluation, work-based learning, and reflective practice, you'll develop the skills necessary to strategically research and lead on business issues to produce a substantial body of work, for a range of stakeholders, underpinned by relevant analysis and reflection.

    We'll take an international perspective on business, management and leadership, deepening your understanding of the impact of globalisation on business, societies, and the environment.

    Course structure

    The MBA Leadership (Degree Apprenticeship) is delivered part-time over two years.

    In the first year, you'll take the majority of your 15 credit taught modules.

    In the second year, you concentrate on your 60 credit Work Based Consultancy Project.

    The Professional Development Portfolio module runs across both years of the course, supporting your progress and your professional career development.

    How will I be assessed?

    On this course you're assessed by a variety of methods that may include some or all of the following across the various modules on the course:

    • Reports
    • Case studies
    • Business plans
    • Proposals for work-based projects/consultancy project
    • Reflective learning, professional career development and work-based experience portfolio
    • Project evaluations
    • Presentations.

    How will I be taught?

    We combine academic study with work-based learning and your own professional experience. You’ll learn through a variety of activities including lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials, online activity and discussion, work-based learning, and project work.

    Staff on this course offer you access to a wide range of academic and practical expertise in leadership and senior management. You’ll benefit from one-to-one tutorials, workshops, peer-support and shared learning. We work with you to ensure that what you learn on the course develops into effective practice in the workplace, and enhances your professional career development.


    Work-based learning, industry learning and professional networks

    This course is designed to increase your professional networks and business connections.

    Work-based learning, the development of a professional portfolio, and the work-based consultancy project are underpinned by the taught modules, and supported by a University-based mentor and a work-based mentor.

    The Bath Business School MBA is supported by an Industry Advisory Panel with experts and professionals from a range of organisations across different business sectors locally, regionally, and nationally.


    The MBA Leadership (Degree Apprenticeship) is designed for people who are already employed, working in a management capacity, and supported to take the course as professional career development by their organisation.

    You'll experience leadership and management in the context most relevant to your chosen career path, and develop lifelong learning skills, including an enthusiasm for business and learning as part of personal professional development.

    Total (including Year 1 and Year 2) £18,000*

    What we look for in potential students

    You'll usually have a good honours degree in any academic subject, plus at least two years of postgraduate work experience. You’ll currently be employed in a leadership role, and your organisation will be required to support your development.

    You may be considered without a first degree, if you can demonstrate considerable relevant experience. You'll be asked to attend an interview, or to submit a portfolio supporting your application.

    With your application, you'll need to upload your degree certificate, a CV, and two references - one from your current employer and one from your last place of formal academic study.
