You’re in safe hands: Bath named second safest city in England and Wales and number one in South West

Bath is the second safest city for students in England and Wales, and has the lowest crime rate in the whole of the South West, according to new independent research.

The team behind the Complete University Guide has analysed publicly available government data* to help ease the decision making process for students, parents and carers, when it comes to choosing the best place to study.

The latest research shows a positive picture for the South West of England, with Bath and North East Somerset fairing the best (2nd), and Exeter (5th) sitting comfortably in the top five safest places. Nearby, Plymouth (15th) and Bristol (16th) also ranked highly out of a total of 128 higher education institutions.

Recognised as experts in their industry, the team behind the Complete University Guide has compiled university league tables for more than 25 years. Speaking on the safety results, Professor Amanda Chetwynd, Chair of the Complete University Guide Advisory Board, said:

*Results are based on domestic burglary, robbery of personal property, and violence with injury against the general public in UK towns and cities with two or more universities, with a three-year rolling average of crime per population of 1,000.
