Jonathan Glasspool

Personal statement

Bloomsbury Academic and Professional division has grown rapidly since its inception in 2008, and specialises in the humanities, social sciences, visual and performing arts, law and tax. Output of titles and services is now over 1400 per year.

Within the division, Jonathan is responsible for publishing many world-leading writers, Nobel laureates and researchers in their fields. A focus for the division is expanding its digital subscription revenues, including:

  • Berg Fashion Library
  • Bloomsbury Fashion Central
  • Drama Online
  • Bloomsbury Collections
  • Bloomsbury Professional Online
  • The Churchill Archive.

The division was winner of the IPG Independent Publisher of the Year Award and Frankfurt Book Fair Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year in March 2013 and winner of Academic & Professional Publisher of the Year in both 2013 and 2014 at The Bookseller Annual UK Industry awards. Its digital services have won various prizes including the US Dartmouth Medal three times and Futurebook Best Digital Platform in 2016.

Jonathan is Chair of the Federation of British Artists, Trustee of the Publishers’ Training Centre, Commercial Board Member of ICAEW, and Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for Publishing Studies at Oxford Brookes University.
