Nancy Widdowson – Bath Spa University

Personal statement

Nancy is a Lecturer in Primary and Early Years English; she teaches on the PGCE and EYITT post-graduate teacher training routes.

Before joining Bath Spa University, Nancy spent 15 years teaching across all Primary phases in Inner-London primary schools. She spent over 10 years at an outstanding, Teaching School Alliance (TSA) school, which was recognised for its particular expertise in innovative and highly effective teacher training and development. Her roles included English lead; Teacher Mentor for School Direct and PGCE student teachers; and delivering a range of ITTE programmes with the Institute of Education in London. She is enthusiastic about sharing the knowledge she gained.

Before focusing on school-based teaching, she had a varied career working within the broader field of art and drama education in London, Glasgow and Sydney. Her roles and projects included devising and delivering an EYFS pilot project for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

Her current research interests include exploring how best the curriculum in the UK can be shaped and developed to mitigate the negative impact of social mobility, particularly in light of the pandemic.
