Feeling at Home: 3rd Year Creative Media student Kieran tells us about his Bath Spa experience.

How would you describe Bath Spa University?

Bath Spa University is a real community. Its small size means my voice is heard and when I need help or need to get in touch with someone I always can, and I always feel listened to.

What do you enjoy most about your course and the course leaders and teachers?

The thing I love most about the BA Creative Media course is how much freedom I have to try out new things and develop a huge skill set. The course is small and intimate, so I’m friends with everyone on my course. This also benefits my learning as I am really familiar with the course leaders and lecturers. They know me well too, and recognise my strengths and the things I need to focus on and develop further.

What are some highlights of your time at Bath Spa so far and is there anything you are particularly proud of accomplishing?

I think some of my biggest highlights have been the work I’ve produced on my course and how I can look back and see the improvement since my first year. Without help from my lecturers and the university itself I wouldn’t be where I am now in my third year, looking forward to the future and my career.

"When I need help or need to get in touch with someone I always can, and I always feel listened to."

What opportunities have you had at Bath Spa?

I’ve had so many opportunities at Bath Spa. I’ve had real-world experience at Artswork Media, based at Paintworks in Bristol, working on client briefs. It’s set me up for a career, and it’s experience I never would have gained if I hadn’t come to Bath Spa. Getting to work with industry professionals is invaluable.

What do you wish you’d known before coming to university?

I wish I had known not to put too much pressure on myself to know things before I arrived. I’m here to learn, and I came in with the mindset that I had to be amazing at camerawork and editing and audio, whereas I’ve learned that the real skill is approaching things with an open mind and a willingness to learn and adapt

What are your hopes for the future?

My main hope is to work in the media industry, specifically in social media and creative marketing. I’m confident I’m going to achieve that, and the skills I’ve gained and challenges I’ve overcome at Bath Spa have made me a better media creative and industry professional.

Can you describe Bath Spa in three words?

Community, creativity, passion.
