The Peter Kinley Painting Prize – Bath Spa University

A £1,000 award and exhibition space for graduating art students.

The Peter Kinley Painting Prize will award one graduating student from the School of Art, Film and Media with £1,000 and an offer of an exhibition at either the Michael Pennie gallery or Sion Hill gallery.

The timing of the exhibition will be agreed with the artist, and in most case is within two years of receiving the prize. The £1,000 will be paid in two instalments.

Previous winners

This is no application process for this award. Current BA Fine Art students and MA students with a practice in painting will automatically be put forward for consideration.

The selection process will involve two external judges. To choose the winner, they will look at the selection of paintings exhibited at the Degree Show on the day of the Private View.

Peter Kinley was a lecturer in painting at Bath Academy of Art (now the School of Art, Film and Media) from 1971-1988. The Peter Kinley Prize was established in 1971 and ran for ten years at Bath Academy of Art.

Catherine Kinley has initially committed to funding the Prize for five years, celebrating the talent of Fine Art students at Bath Spa.
